INNISFIL, ON- After opening his 2014 campaign with weeks of mechanical difficulties and DNFs, Billy Zardo bounced back on May 24th with a fresh engine to a top-10 finish in the 50-lap Sunset Speedway Super Series event.
“We needed this”, smiled Billy as he worked to load his Port City chassis post-race. “This whole team has worked so hard this year, and we just needed something to go right for us”
“It’s a long season, and it feels a lot longer when you’re breaking every night”, continued Zardo. “A top-10 in a field like this definitely sets our program in the right direction”
The third-generation star struggled in qualifying, missing the 14-car invert and rolling off 19th on the grid for the 50-lap A-Main.
“The car wasn’t where we needed it to be in practice and qualifying”, Zardo explained. “But, my guys did what they always do, and worked nonstop until we found the setup we needed. This was a team effort tonight. As badly as we struggled in the heat race, we had no business being in the top-10 tonight. My crew made this happen for me tonight”
The workmanlike 10th place performance earned ‘Z3’ his first top-10 of the season, and has given Zardo renewed confidence entering the second quarter of 2014.
“Let’s just hope that’s it for bad luck. We’re ready to get back to work and earn back some of the points we’ve given up. No matter what’s happened this year, our whole team is still focused on the 2014 championship”
Zardo’s 2014 campaign is made possible thanks to Holmes On Homes, National Exhaust, Better Contracting and Hassell Automotive.
Billy will return to action this Saturday, May 31st for a 50-lap Super Series event at Sunset Speedway. Gate times and ticket prices are available at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca
