DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team began round three of the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series at the Autodrome Chaudière in Vallee-Jonction, QC under challenging circumstances. The team’s resilience and perseverance resulted in a sixth-place finish.
During practice, the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge didn’t perform to its usual standard. After Kennington could only manage a 16th-place starting spot, the team made the bold decision to surrender the starting position for the race and use the time before the green flag to work on the car. A prudent choice as they found an issue with a bent front suspension part.
Kennington would begin the 300-lap race from the back of the field, but with a much better performing car. He immediately moved the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge forward and was running in the top-ten before lap 75. He continued his push forward and, prior to the scheduled mid-race break, moved into the top-five.
In the second half of the race, Kennington continued to run strong and raced hard to the checkered flag, scoring a sixth-place finish.
DJ Kennington Quotes:
“Frustrating start to the day but we managed to grab a decent finish at the end. Super job by the whole Castrol team to diagnose that suspension issue and make the repair. The #17 car just came alive after that, and I could race inside or outside to pass cars. In the late stages with the track changing, we didn’t quite have enough to move further forward, but from where we started at the back, very solid night”.
DJ Kennington and the Castrol Edge Dodge team are headed to Eastbound International Speedway in Avondale, Newfoundland for the PRO-LINE 250 on Saturday, June 24.
