Republic Live, producers of the Boots and Hearts Music Festival and recent purchasers of the Burl’s Creek Family Event Grounds, has finalized a deal that will expand their property to include neighbouring Barrie Speedway.
Originally determined to maintain control of the 1/3-mile Oro-Medonte racing facility, the six partners of APEX Motorsports eventually relented, announcing the sale of the 30 acre property on January 22, 2015.
Stated Angela Clarke, one of the APEX Motorsports partners, “After negotiations with our new neighbours, we believe that there if no way for the two entities to work together, side by side. They have therefore, bought the speedway.”
Details pertaining to the upcoming racing season have not been revealed, with the weekly racing schedule, plus dates reserved for the various OSCAAR divisions and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series now in doubt.
A planned, joint release from the two parties is expected in the near future.
Should the Barrie oval shut down racing operations, it would mark the third such closure in the past two seasons, with the previous loss of the speedways at Kawartha Downs and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The future of Stittville’s Capital City Speedway may also be in doubt, pending the result of a search for a new operator/ promoter.
