BOWMANVILLE, ON – (July 7, 2018) Barrie’s Kyle Marcelli won Saturday’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120 for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, part of Canada’s biggest sportscar race weekend of the year. American Colin Braun secured the pole for Sunday’s feature – the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix.
Marcelli drove the No. 60 Roush Performance/KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4 to the checkered to get him and his co-driver, American Nate Stacy, the win. The pair worked their way up to first from their fifth place qualifying position. Huntsville, ON native Martin Barkey (with co-driver American Brett Sandberg) placed second in the No. 80 AWA Ford Mustang GT4.
Braun, piloting the No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA LMP2, will start on pole with teammate and fellow American Jonathan Bennett after posting the quickest lap of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying session (1:06.315) ahead of Acura Team Penske driver Dane Cameron (co-driver Juan Pablo Montoya) in the No. 6 Acura DPi (1:06.540). Marcelli will return to the track tomorrow as he teams up with Dominik Baumann in the No. 14 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3) – Baumann of Austria posted the second quickest time (1:16.020) in the GT Daytona class and the team will start second on Sunday in class.
