GRIMSBY, ON- Reigning Sunset Speedway Super Stock champion Cayden Lapcevich will make his first career Pro Late Model start on Saturday, May 23rd when the upstart APC United Late Model Series presented by Grisdale Racing Products contests their first ever event at Sunset Speedway.
The third-generation star will pilot an entry fielded by Hamilton, ON’s Terry Baker and will look to be one of the lone Sunset Speedway regulars in the field when the 100-lap event takes the green flag.
“This is a huge opportunity, I can’t thank Terry and his team enough for letting me drive their car,” says Lapcevich. “We tested this car at Flamboro last week and it was an absolute rocket. I can’t wait to see what we can do in race trim”
The 15-year old is likely to be one of the youngest drivers hoping to qualify for Saturday’s event, though Lapcevich explains that racing against more experienced competition is nothing new.
“I don’t really concentrate on how old these drivers are or how long they’ve been racing for. When the window net goes up and that engine fires – we’re all equal. I’m looking forward to getting to know some of these guys that I haven’t had the chance to race with yet”
“Drivers like Dale Shaw, Matt Pritiko and Jamie Cox are guys I’ve watched for a long time, but haven’t been on track with yet,” continues Lapcevich. “That’s something that really excites me”
Fresh off of a feature victory in Super Stock competition on May 2nd, ‘The Prodigy’ will look to continue his string of impressive performances in front of the home track crowd.
“It’s going to be exciting to make my first Pro Late Model start at Sunset,” says the third-generation driver. “I really wouldn’t want it any other way”
“I’ve grown up here. I won my first ever Super Stock heat race in front of these fans. I won my first Open Wheel Modified race here, too. I don’t know how Saturday is going to shake out – but I’m happy that I get to figure this thing out at my home track.”
Sponsorship for Lapcevich’s Terry Baker-owned entry will come from Baker Performance of Hamilton, Ohsweken Speedway, Fastline Motorsports, NAPA (Barton Auto Parts Group) and EPIC Racewear.
Fans can keep up with ‘The Prodigy’ all weekend long by visiting the official Cayden Lapcevich Racing page on Facebook or by following on Twitter @CaydenLapcevich.
