WOODVILLE, ON- Second-generation Thunder Car competitor Anthony Dibello will enter Peterborough Speedway’s June 21st event in search of his third feature victory in four starts.
After debuting a new car at the 2014 season opener, Dibello has yet to finish outside of the top-5, and has quickly amassed a resume that has fans and insiders alike pointing to him as a potential breakout star.
“We’re only four starts in, and this already feels like a dream season”, beams Dibello. “We’ve brought our whole program to the next level, we bought this chassis over the winter, and did everything we could to gear it towards Peterborough’s rule book”
“For me, now that I have two wins under my belt, it’s all about getting into a routine and keeping our momentum up”, Dibello continues. “We’re leading the points right now, and that in itself is amazing, but it could change in a heartbeat with one bad night.
Dibello is quick to point out the parity in Peterborough’s Thunder Car division, a class that includes a number of capable drivers able to win on any given night.
“I believe this is the most evenly matched Thunder Car division in Ontario”, explains Dibello. “You’ve got veteran guys, you’ve got young up-and-comers, and former champions. It’s tough sledding out here. If you’re not on you’re A-Game, you can find yourself at the back awfully quick”
The son of Thunder Car veteran Fedele Dibello, Anthony’s own short track career had humble beginnings prior to his recent hot streak.
“This season has been a few years in the making”, says the oft-humble up-and-comer. “I started out in the Mosport Speedway ‘6 or Less’ division, and went to the track every single weekend with the goal of improving every time out. I’d watch some of the veteran guys and try to pick up what was working for them. It’s something I still do, to this day”
“We’re no overnight success, that’s for sure”, adds Dibello with a smile.
Anthony will return to action this Saturday, June 21st at Peterborough, intent on widening his gap in the Thunder Car points standings. Gate times and ticket prices for this weekend’s event can be found at www.PeterboroughSpeedway.com
