INNISFIL, ON- After a two-year hiatus from Late Model competition, former Sauble Speedway frontrunner Andy Kamrath has confirmed he will return to the cockpit of a Pro Late Model for four events in 2016.
‘The Instant Classic’ will join London Recreational Racing teammates Shawn Chenoweth and Andrew Gresel in a trio of APC United Late Model Series events at Sunset Speedway and Sauble Speedway, in addition to taking part in the famed Peterborough Speedway ‘Autumn Colours Classic’ to cap off the 2016 campaign.
“I don’t think there’s a driver in Ontario right now that wouldn’t jump at the chance to be a part of the APC Series,” says Kamrath matter-of-factly. “It seems like all the best teams in the province are either on the tour – or trying to find a way to get to the tour. I’ve been dying to be a part of it since the first race at Sunset last season”
Kamrath’s APC United Late Model Series debut will be a product of a support campaign spearheaded by longtime partner AM Roofing, London Recreational Racing founder Mike Schmidt in addition to teammate and friend Shawn Chenoweth.
“There’s no chance I would have ever sat back in a Late Model without a ton of support from the people around me,” insists the Owen Sound, ON native.
“AM Roofing put a lot into my Ltd. Late Model program when I was running fulltime, and they told me that if I ever wanted to get back at it they would be there to support me,” details Kamrath. “Mike has been a huge supporter of our program for a few years – and this will allow us to be an even bigger part of his team moving into 2016. It’s an honour to be a part of London Recreational Racing, and I can’t thank Mike enough for the faith that he’s shown in me. Hopefully we can get him a few extra Pro Late [Model] wins this season”
“Shawn and I have wanted to work together for a while now, and we hadn’t been able to put something together. Once he made the decision to expand his Pro Late Model fleet, it seemed like the perfect fit. I couldn’t think of a better teammate to hit these tour events with”
For team owner Schmidt, Kamrath’s return to Late Model competition presents the ideal opportunity to increase LRR’s win total from a year ago.
“Shawn and Andy have both won a lot of races under the LRR banner – and I’m excited to see what they can do with Andrew [Gresel] as a one-two-three punch against some of the best Late Model competition in the country,” says Schmidt. “Each of these APC Series events have become as prestigious and coveted as any Crown Jewel, so we’re ecstatic to have a chance at increasing our odds of winning as many of these races as possible”
“Andy has put together some pretty impressive numbers in a Mini Stock – but I seem to remember him being awfully successful in a Late Model a few years ago,” adds Schmidt with a laugh – in reference to Kamrath’s 10 career Sauble Speedway triumphs. “We’ll be ready to help him shake the rust off. And, once he does, I think he’s going to surprise some people.”
