SAUBLE BEACH, Ont. – May 26, 2017 – Sauble Falls Racing is excited to reveal the 2017 paint scheme for Andrew Gresel’s McRobert Fuels No.81 Ford Fusion for competition with the APC Pro Late Model Series. The 2017 season gets underway on Saturday, May 27 with the Gumout 100 at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ont. Race time is 5:00pm.
Gresel’s new car, designed and installed by Pro Wraps in Ayr, Ont., features a predominantly red car again for the 2017 season. After the team’s 2016 championship season and with McRobert Fuels on board as the team’s primary sponsor for the upcoming campaign, Gresel wasn’t going to stray too far from the colour and design that helped propel him to a championship.
“I like a red race car, especially after last year,” Gresel said with a laugh. “It’s McRobert Fuels’ colours and it makes everything else stand out too. It’s a good way to go. Pro Wraps did a wicked job wrapping the entire racecar.”
With the finishing touches on the car now finalized, Gresel and his Sauble Falls Racing team are solely focused on beginning their APC Series championship title defense when the green flag drops at Sunset. However, there are some changes on the tour this season.
The biggest wrinkle for all drivers involved is the new group qualifying format. It will see five to six cars qualify at once for five laps. The new format intends to speed up the process to determine the starting lineup for the 100 lap feature. Gresel has not participated in the format before, but knows his concentration will be key to quick time.
“You have to maintain your focus,” Gresel said. “When you’re out there by yourself, it’s a lot easier, rather than having a guy in front of you running a different line that might make you slower. You really have to focus on your own marks and pretend that there’s nobody else out there.”
Regardless, Gresel and his team are excited to begin their new season and race for another championship in 2017. After a long winter of hard work that included several updates to the No.81, Gresel and his crew are eager to fire the engine and hit the track again.
“The car is looking really good and all of the guys are ready to go,” Gresel said.” Everybody wants to make this first race happen.”
Gresel knows the competition entering the first race will be as tough as any this season. Between the series regulars and local invaders, the season-opener is sure to be one of the most challenging races this season.
“At Sunset, there’s usually a good number of cars,” Gresel said. “It’s going to be a tough start to the year. We will run as hard as everybody else, but we just want a good clean race to start the season.”
Fans who want to commemorate Gresel’s 2016 championship season and to support the team in 2017 can pick-up a 2016 championship t-shirt at the APC Series merchandise booth at the season opener.
