SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Despite working through the most difficult summer of his racing career, Andrew Gresel says his Sauble Falls Racing team will be ready for Sunday’s APC United Late Model Series event at Sunset Speedway.
“We’re just too crazy to give up,” says Gresel with a smile. “There’s just no other way to look at it. This has, without question, been the toughest season we’ve ever had, but we don’t quit. It’s not what we do. The bad luck has to stop eventually – so it might as well be this weekend”
When asked his pre-race thoughts heading into the 100-lap event on Sunday afternoon, the former Delaware Speedway Pro Late Model champion admits he’s ready to work with whatever’s handed to him on race day.
“I don’t really have a game plan for this weekend, other than to finish the race, to be honest with you,” explains the second-generation standout. “We’ve had some awesome strategies this year, and they haven’t done us a whole lot of good. So, this Sunday, I’m just going to take what comes our way and do my best to adjust on the fly”
“After everything that’s happened, I still believe in our program and I still believe in our equipment,” continues Gresel. “If we can dodge the rough stuff early, I think we have a car good enough to contend in the later laps”
Gresel’s family-run operation has suffered significant damage in 4 of the 5 tour events they have completed this season. When asked about their tireless work ethic, Gresel is quick to credit the people around him.
“I want a podium finish for my team even more than I want it for myself,” says the Sauble Beach, ON driver. “These guys have shown dedication beyond anything I could have ever asked for this season. I don’t think that all the steak dinners in the world could make up for what they’ve done to help me get back on track this season. But I think some APC Series hardware might just do the trick”
“This is what we live for,” adds Gresel matter-of-factly. “We’ll keep coming back until we get what we feel we deserve. My sponsors have supported me far too much, and my team has worked far too hard, for us to sit in the stands and watch. On Sunday, we’re showing up with every intention of getting this car to the front of the field. It’s time to turn this deal around.”
