Andrew Gresel Will Unload At Delaware Speedway With Hopes Of Shaking Off His Recent Run Of Bad Luck

HEPWORTH, ON- After two frustrating outings to open up the 2015 APC United Late Model Series campaign, former Super Late Model champion Andrew Gresel aims for Delaware Speedway to play host to his season’s turnaround in Round 3 of the cross-province tour on June 26th.

“I don’t think it’s a secret that we need a good run to turn this season around,” explains Gresel. “We just can’t seem to get luck on our side. We’ve worked nonstop since Flamboro to get this car back to where we need it to be. We haven’t had the chance to show everyone how good this car is. I hope we can do that at Delaware”

Despite DNFs at Sunset and Flamboro, Gresel is not ready to throw in the towel yet – anticipating a bounce-back in Friday’s ‘Sifton 100’.

“When we were leading the OSCAAR points, not once did I ever pay any attention to the standings. This is the same situation,” says Gresel. “It doesn’t matter what kind of season we’re having, I don’t want to talk about points until it’s all over and done with. I’m committed to this tour to win races. That’s my job – and that’s what I’m intending to do at Delaware”

“If we can start winning some races, the points will work themselves out. We’re not beat yet”

A former Delaware Speedway champion and Great Canadian Race winner, the second-generation star has already been tabbed by many as a driver to watch in Friday’s 100-lapper. However, Gresel maintains he will rely more on his team’s work rate than his previous triumphs on race day.

“We definitely have some experience at Delaware – but so do a lot of other guys,” shrugs the young veteran. “I think on a roster as deep as this, your past accomplishments aren’t going to get you very far”

“It’s all about figuring out what’s going to work on Friday. Having the most starts or the most wins at Delaware isn’t going to get you to victory lane on Friday,” continues Gresel. “Bringing the best package possible and adapting to the race and track conditions is what’s going to get you to victory lane”

With two weeks of repairs completed after a particularly rough outing at Flamboro Speedway in Round 2 of the tour, Gresel maintains the team’s main objective at Delaware is to keep the fenders on their No. 81.

“I’m just hoping we can roll this thing into the trailer at the end of the night with all of the panels on it. I’m getting sick of fixing it,” offers the London Recreational Racing team member with a laugh. “I want to start focusing on making it faster, not putting it back together again. Delaware has a lot of room – so there’s no reason to be out there driving over top of guys”

“We’re not even considering the negative at this point. We’re going to unload at Delaware and we’re going to have a solid run. Then, we’re going to turn this season around. There’s no sense in anticipating it any other way.”

Details, including gate times and advanced ticket sales, for Friday’s “Sifton 100” can be found at www.DelawareSpeedway.com.

Andrew Gresel’s 2015 APC United Late Model Series season would not be possible without Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, London Recreational, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers, HY-Grade Roofing, Have1.com and Raden Givari of eHomes.
