HEPWORTH, ON- Current OSCAAR Super Late Model point leader Andrew Gresel hopes to extend his current win streak to 4, when he rolls into Round 9 of the tour at Sunset Speedway on August 23rd.
Wins at Sauble, Peterborough and Kawartha have padded Gresel’s points totals, propelling him into a comfortable lead with 4 events remaining on the 2014 schedule.
“We’ve been on a tear lately, the car’s been an absolute blast to drive”, says Gresel. “Once you get on a streak like this, all you can think about is how badly you want to keep it going. The more we win, the harder we work. Hopefully we can keep things rolling at Sunset”
The second-generation star has yet to find victory lane at Sunset, and looks to improve upon the 4th and 5th place finishes he tallied in his last visit as part of June’s 2-day ‘Don Biederman Memorial’ event.
“Every time we race at Sunset, we seem to get better”, explains Gresel. “Our Sunset notebook is a lot thicker now than it was at the beginning of the season, and I’m confident that we’re just a couple tweaks away from being able to put it all together”
“It’s just like with every other track on the tour – the more we work at it, the better we get”, continues Gresel. “I’m not giving up on figuring out Sunset, and neither is anyone else on this team. We’re going to win there eventually”
Gresel has yet to finish outside of the top-5 this season, and enters Sunset with a 37-point lead as he continues to work his way towards his first career OSCAAR championship.
“We’re just as proud of our top-5 streak as we are the points lead”, smiles Gresel. “When you look down the tour roster, and see the level of talent that we race with every weekend, you realize what an honor it is to put together a season like this”
“At this stage of the season, I just want to finish strong. Not because we’re leading the point standings, but because my guys have worked harder than ever before in the last month and I want to reward them with some performances they can be proud of”
