Mississauga, ON (August 5, 2019)- As part of the schedule of activities for the 50th edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, the Nissan Micra Cup will hold two races at the event on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11. The second race will mark the 60th race of the Nissan Micra Cup series which began in 2015.
Will the new championship leader, Kevin King, finally earn his first victory this weekend? With a talented peloton of 28 entries, anything is possible. As part of a series with unwavering popularity, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières event will see the arrival of three new drivers that have never raced in the Nissan Micra Cup before, namely young racers Charles Deschênes and Nathan Gilbert, and Mario Dufour who comes from a karting background.
The annual outing on the temporary urban circuit of Trois-Rivières will also see the return of actor and comedian Michel Barrette, one of the stars of the 2018 edition. His sons Nicolas, who is competing in the entire 2019 season, and Martin will both be partaking in the weekend’s activities. Kevin King and Marco Signoretti will also be racing, who exchanged places in the championship standings after the previous event at Circuit Mont-Tremblant.
Ontarian Marco Signoretti, series Rookie and PayPal/Motorsports In Action team driver, will also be taking part in the Trois-Rivières event activities. Quebecer Kevin King, who’s familiar with this event, is the series leader heading into the event but many other drivers will arrive in Trois-Rivières with hopes of victory and a podium position.
This is the case for Valérie Limoges, who claimed her first series pole position at Circuit Mont-Tremblant in July, as well as Quebec driver Frédéric Bernier, currently third in the championship standings and leader of the Senior Class. Rookie driver Éric Chaput and Ontarian Austin Riley, who have both made strides since the beginning of the season, could also surprise with their performances. With practically stock Micra S race cars, races seven and eight of the series will surely prove to be spectacular and unpredictable.
The two races of the 2019 Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières will not be the only activities of the weekend presented by the Nissan Micra Cup and Nissan Canada. Similar to other weekend events of the series, Canadian Nissan Micra owners are invited to attend the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières free of charge. Created in 1967 and the first urban circuit in North America, this event is certainly part of the history of motorsports.
All fans who will attend will be invited to an autograph session with Nissan Micra Cup drivers’ in the series paddocks at 1:00 pm on Sunday, August 11. This activity will take place following the second race and is an opportunity to get to know the drivers that fans witnessed on the track moments before.
This 2019 edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières will also give the audience the opportunity to discover the 100 per cent electric Nissan LEAF NISMO RC. Equipped with two electric motors situated on opposite ends of the chassis, the LEAF NISMO RC produces a combined 322 horsepower (161 each motor) and 472 pound-feet of instant torque to the wheels. The new 2019 Nissan LEAF’s transmission technology includes a high capacity lithium-ion battery and inverters.
The LEAF NISMO RC will be used as the official pace car of the Nissan Micra Cup. It will take to the track for the formation laps leading into the two races, which will air live on the series YouTube page (Micra Cup TV). Interviews and updates will also be uploaded online on the series’ social media pages in both English and French, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
