(GEARY, NB – June 22nd, 2019) – Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) captured the Martin’s Home Heating 100 at Speedway 660 on Saturday evening. O’Blenis was strong throughout the race, showing the way through the 100-lap distance which ran with the first 81 laps without a caution. Devin Snell (Saint John, NB) got up on the wheel at the finish, racing door to door with O’Blenis on the final lap but had to settle for second at the finish. Snell joined fellow Lonnie Sommerville Racing driver Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) on the podium behind O’Blenis. Richard Atkinson (Haneytown, NB) and Matt Rodgers (Smithtown, NB) completed the top five in the fast paced Late Model Sportsman feature.
Alexandra O’Blenis, Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and Collins took home heat race victories. Seventeen cars entered the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100.
Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB) picked up his first Speedway 660 feature win of the season Saturday night in the Geary woods by taking home the feature win in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock feature. Sommerville raced with Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) for the victory as the two worked their way to the front of the field then battled it out for the win. Roy was second at the end of the 50-lap feature, followed by Ian Rasmussen (New Denmark, NB) who scored one of the best runs of his young career. Chris Duncan (Rothesay, NB) recorded a top five finish in his first race of the season by finishing fourth in the feature with Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) fifth. John Rankin (St. Martin’s, NB) and Roy won heat races to kick off the night.
Ryan Bernard (Harvey, NB) pocketed a big win in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters feature, driving for Allison Hall and the Hall Racing team. Bernard was able to capture the checkered flag ahead of Matt Martin (Haneytown, NB) and Ricky Arbeau (Fredericton, NB). Reigning track champion Bryan Suttie (Keswick, NB) and Malcolm Suley (Clarendon, NB) raced to top five finishes in the 20-lap feature. In the final tune up ahead of the Gunslinger 50, 20 drivers took the green flag on Saturday evening. Qualifying heat races went to Arbeau, Bernard and Wesley Harnish (Beaverdam, NB).
The DMR Auto Sales and Service Street Stock division was off this evening.
The Speedway 660 season continues next Sunday afternoon at a special start time of 4pm. The Sharp Shooters will be in the spotlight for the Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram. The RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and DMR Auto Street Stocks will play support to the Sharp Shooter showcase.
