COLDWATER, ON- Third-generation star Jordan Latimer is eager to return to weekly competition at Barrie Speedway on June 21st, after impressing in his Sunset Speedway debut last Saturday.
The grandson of Barrie legend Garry Reynolds, Latimer has battled through a trio of frustrating outings at Barrie, prior to the Thunder Car division’s ‘off night’ on June 14th.
“We really needed a good run to get some of our confidence back”, admitted Latimer. “For the better part of a month, we’ve had a tough time at Barrie. My guys have given me awesome cars, we just seem to have rough luck on the racetrack”
“I had never turned laps at Sunset before last week”, continued Latimer, “so, going down there and knocking down a top-5 meant the world”
Latimer will return to Barrie intent on tightening his grip on the Rookie of the Year standings.
“The goal [June 21st] will be to get this car back into the top-5”, said Latimer. “That rough patch didn’t do us any favours in terms of the point standings. It feels like we’ve been missing a step the last couple weeks, so I’m really looking forward to coming back out and bringing home a strong finish”
Despite his recent frustrations, Latimer appears composed when discussing his freshman campaign in the Thunder Car division.
“My team and I spoke all off-season about how tough it was going to be to race in this division”, explained the 15-year old. “There are guys that we’re up against that have been doing this as long as I’ve been alive. We were prepared for some growing pains. We definitely didn’t think we were going to come in and run all over these guys”
“We’ll just have to get back to work, and find a way to turn our luck around”
