SASKATOON, SK – Saturday, August 11, was jammed packed with great racing action as drivers, teams and fans were out at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway (ACMS) on a beautiful summer evening. One local division, the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks competed in a regular points meet and the visiting Legends Series and the Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series tore up the track.
In the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stock division, #62 Kenny Heintz took the checkered flag for the 10-lap heat race followed by #44 Graig Katelnikoff and #47 Calvin Heilman. The #19 car Aaron Anderson won the 15-lap qualifier race driven by Alex Leschenko . Leschenko was driving in for Aaron Anderson (the current points leader for the division) who dislocated his shoulder while loading his race vehicle earlier that day. #34 Mike Schroeder finished the qualifier in second and #87 Jason Wilkie in third. The feature race was full of excitement. Then on lap three the #19 Aaron Anderson’s car had a tire come off and it ended his night. The remainder of the race was clean and the #34 Mike Schroeder got the win followed by #432 Eric McIntosh in second and #62 Kenny Heintz in third. The coveted 50th anniversary Feature Winner Flag was resented by long time driver/member of the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association Barry Stefaniuk.
The visiting Legends series were back in Saskatoon for their second official race event of the season. These drivers are always fun to watch as they are so fast! Thirty-two Legends had made it out to ACMS coming from across Saskatchewan and Alberta.
This series is divided by experience of the drivers – into three divisions Semi Pro, Pro and Masters. The heats are run by the divisions and in the feature all drivers regardless of the division compete together. #81 Dexter Hucal and the #17 Ira Laughy, both of Alberta, won their respective heat races. These two drivers also won their respective qualifier races. The 50-lap feature race was full of door to door racing, quick passes and only a couple of cautions. The #81 of Dexter Hucal of Edmonton, AB got the win with #17 Ira Laughy (Calgary AB) in second and #32 Adam Gilbert (Leduc AB) coming in third. Former Driver Brien Wilson presented the 50th anniversary flag to Dexter.

The Dakota Dunes Casino Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series competed in their second of four race events at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in 2012. Twenty-three teams came out to Auto Clearing Motor Speedway to participate in the action – the main race the Old Dutch 150. Qualifying times for the fastest sixteen guaranteed teams a spot in the race – starting order was determined by the finishing order in the heat races.
Top three finishers for the two heat races were – in first, #71 Greg Vangool (Saskatoon), #33 Jamie McClennon (AB) in second and #14 Glen Hertzke (Saskatoon) in third in the first heat; and #38 Dave Bone (Saskatoon) in first, #70 Trent Seidel (Saskatoon) in second and #55 Jim Gaunt (Saskatoon) in third in the second heat. Top three positions in finishing order for the B Main went to drivers #56 Howard Crossman (Saskatoon), #69 PJ Kondra (Saskatoon), and #88 Jason Gervais (Saskatoon).
Starting order had been determined for the Old Dutch 150 lap race by previous events of the day – but then there was the twist. #71 Greg Vangool (Saskatoon) and #70 Trent Seidel (Saskatoon) qualified for the first two positions. As a bonus for achieving that feat, these two drivers were offered an additional $1000 payout if they won the race…but the catch…they had to start the race from the back. A tough feat to work their way through the field of cars….but both agreed to give it a shot! Then the big dice came out….an 8 was rolled…meaning that the front eight positions (after the two were took their spot in the back) were inverted. Now the starting order was finalized!
The race was tight… and fast! Early in the race, with 134 laps to go, #33 Jamie McClennon took the lead and was safe in the front of the pack out of harms way. There were many cautions during the race taking over half the field. The #71 Greg Vangool and #70 Trent Seidel had been working their way through the field from the back of the pack and with 51 laps to go #71 Greg Vangool passed #70 Trent Seidel for the second spot. He then set his sights on the leader #33 Jamie McClennon. With 22 laps to go #71 Greg Vangool had done it…he took over the lead from McClennon and there was no looking back. #71 Greg Vangool finished in first, (winning the $1000 bonus payout), #33 Jamie McClennon came in second and #70 Trent Seidel finished in third. Eleven of 23 cars finished the race.
