Halifax, NS – (June 21, 2017) The 23rd edition of the Shriner’s Classic for the Affordable Fuels & Metro Home Heating Sportsman is set for Friday night at Scotia Speedworld. In addition to the 50 lap Sportsman feature fans will also see racing action from the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Toursec Thunder and Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Racing action will get underway at 7:00 PM.

The 23rd Annual Shriners Classic is one of the biggest Late Model Sportsman races in Eastern Canada and is expected to draw big names to Scotia Speedworld to run for the coveted trophy. Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside) is a two-time and the defending champion of the event and on Friday will look to become only the third driver in event history to win three or more Shriners Classic races.

NASCAR Pinty’s Series and Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour competitor Josh Collins (Placentia, NL) will run his first Affordable Fuels Sportsman race at Scotia Speedworld on Friday night in the 23rd Annual Shriners Classic. Collins will also be in the field for Saturday’s Nova Truck Centres Make A Wish 150. Jeff Dillman is also expected to be in the field on Friday evening driving Matt Moore’s Sportsman car. Dillman is a four-time winner of the event.

“This race carries the most prestige of any Sportsman race we run all year at this track,” said Jordan Veinotte, driver of the #11 Veinotte’s Truck and Auto Ford in the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division. “To be listed alongside the late Terry Roma and a number of other champions like Craig Slaunwhite that have moved on to race on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour would be a top highlight for any Sportsman driver. The pressure is certainly on to put our names on the trophy this Friday night.”

Pulse Heavy Duty Truck driver Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) will join Tim Terry as co-host for the 23rd Annual Shriners Classic. Parrott is a two-time feature winner in the division, a graduate of the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero division and is a fan favorite within the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series.

Parrott and her peers in the Pulse Heavy Duty Truck division will race Saturday on the undercard to the Nova Truck Centres Make A Wish 150 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. They will also be joined by the Toursec Lightning division from the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series to round out the second day of the double header weekend.
