LOVELAND, CO. – JDX Racing, winner of the 2018 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Championship, is excited to announce Sean McAlister will drive the JDX Racing/ Byers Porsche GT3 Cup Car for the 2019 season in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama. McAlister has built an impressive sports car resume during his short tenure in auto racing and is the recipient of the 2019 IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship Award.

McAlister won the Platinum Class Championship in the Porsche Trophy West series driving a 991.1 version of the Porsche GT3 Cup Car, scoring an impressive 12 race wins in 14 starts during the 2018 season. McAlister also has wins behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport car and a GT4 class win the 2017 SRO California 8 Hours Endurance race.

Sean McAlister, JDX Racing Driver Quote:

“I consider myself still in the early stages of my racing career, which began by attending a Skip Barber Racing School at Laguna Seca Raceway back in 2013. In 2015, I attended an advanced racing school, SimRaceway, which had a focus on open-wheel formula cars, I competed in their school series in both 2015 and 2016.”

“My first exposure to racing a Porsche came in 2016 when I raced in the Trophy West USA series, piloting the new Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport car. The car was amazing to drive and the technical help and support my team got at the track from PMNA [Porsche Motorsport North America] was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I continued racing the Cayman GT4 car in 2017 and our team won the inaugural 2017 WeatherTech Raceway SRO California 8 Hours in the GT4 category. For 2018, I transitioned to a Porsche Cup Car in the Platinum Class of the Trophy West USA series and won my first racing championship in a Porsche 911 last year.”

“Being the 2019 recipient of the IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship Award is an amazing honor. The scholarship provides a great opportunity for young drivers such as myself, the chance to be a part of a distinguished racing series and championship that can be a springboard to a professional driving career.”

Jeremy Dale, Managing Partner, JDX Racing Quote:

“I’m really pleased the judging panel chose Sean as the 2019 recipient of the IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship. Everyone at JDX Racing is excited to get to work preparing for the upcoming season. Driver development is very close to my heart and I’m very proud of what our team has done over the years to help young drivers grow. Combine youthful energy with a Porsche Cup Car on Yokohama tires in the IMSA/ Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Series and you have an amazing platform for young drivers like Sean. Sean has a steep learning curve in front of him, but I’m confident that our combined hard work and dedication will produce great results in 2019.”

“Scholarship programs like the IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship are very important for motorsports and nurturing young talent and I’d like to thank IMSA, Porsche, Yokohama Tires, OMP and Racer Magazine for their support and patronage of this program.”
