@WomenChampions •@Sunset_Speedway •@2kendraadams • Barrie, ON – July 28, 2016 – 16 Year-old Kendra Adams, driver of the #2 Super Stock SE Telecom Chevy, is proud to announce her participation in the Canada’s Dairy Farmers Champions Fund program with the hopes of earning 1 of 20 grants of $5,000 being offered to deserving female applicants who go above and beyond.

The Champions Fund was created by Canada’s dairy farmers to empower the female athletic community, to provide a resource that can help change the game for Canada’s young girls and women athletes. The 2016 Champions Fund will award $5,000 grants to 20 deserving female athletes, teams, or organizations, providing the financial support needed to pursue their athletic goals. The Champions Fund selection committee will review the applications and decide on the 20 most-deserving grant recipients which Adams hopes to be one of.

“Sports are a way for all people, especially women, to feel they are part of a team, to feel accepted. It is good for girls growing up to be a part of something positive and to feel the sense of accomplishment and bonding/acceptance/friendship that build better character and develop a sense of self value.” said Adams

According to the womenchampions.ca website, women only get 5% of sport media coverage yet; Canada’s female athletes and teams have experienced unparalleled success on the global stage in recent years. Additionally, in Canada, 41% of girls aged 3-17 don’t participate in sports. This figure jumps to an astounding 84% in adult women.

The grade 12 Extended French student not only races stock cars against many who are twice her age she is also one of two female members of a local Championship winning hockey team.

Adams’ goals as a driver and a female athlete are to race at a competitive level, learn something each time she’s on the racetrack, inspire youth and teach girls they can do anything as well as help those who face daily challenges in their lives.

The Champions Fund applicant recently announced her support of Kids Help Phone, a leading Canadian charity dedicated to the emotional health and well-being of young people across Canada. Part of her fundraising initiatives for this worthy program was donating race-winnings from a past race-weekend. Businesses and generous donors bolstered her race-winnings to raise a total of $810 for Kids Help Phone. She is also a proud “Laps for Muscular Dystrophy” (Laps4MD) driver where she’s pledged to donate $1 for every lap she leads in 2016 to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Adams was the sole Canadian applicant invited to test for the 2015-2016 NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity Youth Program and hopes to pursue this opportunity again at the end of the season.
