DAYTONA BEACH, FL (February 11, 2019)- Sun Peaks, BC racer Jason White hit the track this past weekend for his version of the “Daytona Double” piloting his #11 Powder Ventures Excavating/YourGMCTruckStore.com Chevrolet in the Lucas Oil 200, the opening race of the 2019 season for the ARCA Mendards Series at Daytona International Speedway. It was a thrill a minute for the veteran Canadian racer who raced his way up near the top-ten before finishing a very respectable 16th in the event.
During practice White was like a sponge absorbing all he could during each track session, especially when drafting with other cars.
“It’s quite the sensation, the car feels different and the sound changes too” said White. “I didn’t get the qualifying spot I’d hoped for, but knew that the car would be really sound during the race” he added.
White rolled form the 31ststarting position in the #11 Powder Ventures Excavating/YourGMCStore.com Chevy for the 80-lap race and immediately began to move forward in the field.
“The car did exactly what I expected,” said the driver. “I just took my time and moved up when I had the opportunity”.
With fewer than 25 laps remaining White was inside the top-20 and maneuvering into position for his charge to the checkered flag. Unfortunately the #46 car spun in front of the #11 Powder Ventures Excavating/YourGMCTruckStore.com car and White was collected as collateral damage.
“I ran out of room,” said a frustrated White. “I tried to go around him and brushed the outside wall. The body damage was on thing but we also cracked a brake rotor”.
White brought the #11 Powder Ventures Excavating/YourGMCTruckStore.com Chevy to pit road the crew went to work making repairs as best they could. White returned to competition and did his best to gain as many spots as he could in his wounded ride and took the checkered flag in 16thposition.
“What an experience” White exclaimed afterwards. “Fast Track Racing and Andy Hillenburg gave me a great car, for sure we had a top-ten finish if not for that contact, maybe even top five. I’m so grateful for them, for the Zimmer Auto Group and their support with YourGMCTruckStore.com. I can’t wait to get back at it”
Jason White will take all the knowledge gained from this race and return to action next in the Gander Outdoor Truck Series this coming week driving the #34 Powder Ventures Excavating/YourGMCTruckStore.com Chevrolet.
“Everything I learned this weekend I’ll use in the next race. We have to qualify on speed and this experience is going to help a lot. I can’t wait to get back at it,” said an exuberant Jason White.
This adventure in Daytona wouldn’t be possible without the backing of long time friend and supporter Rob Zimmer and the Zimmer Auto Group. “Rob and I go back a long way and it’s even more special to continue the relationship as we debut at Daytona, I can’t thank them enough” said White.
