@WeatherTech • @weathertechca • @UnitedSportsCar • @IMSA • DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2015) – WeatherTech Racing completed a successful three days of testing at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for the 53rd running of the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona, Jan 22-15.
Under mixed weather conditions of cold and rain throughout the three day test, the team completed maximum laps giving the driving team of Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill), Leh Keen (Charleston, SC), Andrew Davis (Athens, Ga) and Shane van Gisbergen (Auckland, New Zealand) maximum seat time behind the wheel of the No. 22 WeatherTech Racing Porsche. The team logged a fast lap of 1:47.581 good for a top ten on the weekend in the ultra-competitive GTD field comprised of 19 cars.
“The WeatherTech Porsche ran flawlessly all weekend,” MacNeil said. “We welcomed Andrew into the team and it was good to see Shane up from down under. We had a mix of weather conditions, so it was nice to try out a few different set-up options. We are somewhere in the top five with speed, but I really like the car’s consistency over a fuel stint. I guess we have to wait until qualifying to see where we really land on the speed chart.”
Keen liked the way the weekend went.
“This weekend went great,” Keen said. “Really happy with how smoothly everything went his weekend. It was great to have Shane back and Andrew now in our lineup. The car was strong every practice session and really great over the long run. Couldn’t have been a smoother test to get ready for the big race!”
Newcomer Davis got comfortable with this new team.
“I felt that we had a very successful test in our AJR WeatherTech Porsche GT America,” Davis said. “From my perspective, it was great having the opportunity to become accustom to the way things are done at Alex Job Racing. The team works together exceptionally well, and felt like I was able to assimilate with the group quickly. We made some good progress with the car over the course of the test. All of us were able to gain some valuable time behind the wheel, and we gathered important data to make our No. 22 Porsche a strong race car for the big show! The competition is going to be really strong at this year’s Rolex 24, and there is a stacked field of quality cars, teams, and drivers in the GTD category. However, I am very confident that our WeatherTech Porsche is going to be right up front when we return to Daytona next week.”
Team owner Alex Job is pleased with the progression of the team over the weekend.
“We went through our to-do list and accomplished everything we needed to this weekend,” Job said. “The car ran great and all four drivers were able to get in a lot of laps to get reacquainted with the circuit and the team. There are fewer cars in the GTD class this year, but the quality of teams and drivers is higher.”
The team will compete in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 22-25.
The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship GTD (GT Daytona) Class is made up of some the world’s most sophisticated cars, including the Porsche 911 GT America, Ferrari 458, Aston Martin, BMW Z4, Viper SRT and Audi R8. All GTD Class cars run on the spec Continental tire.
