Inside Track Motorsport News and CASC-OR enter agreement to promote amateur road racing in Ontario

April 4, 2019

(Bowmanville, Ontario) June 30th, 2012 – This third race of the CASA season was hosted by BARC and held at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. With such a strong showing in the first two series races there was a real sense amongst the team members that they were in contention not just to win this race but to add to the points lead the team had entering into this weekend’s racing.

Every detail was checked and double checked to ensure that #110 was primed for a peak performance.
The crew’s efforts paid off with a fast time qualifying lap landing the #110 Viper in first place on the GT 2 starting grid. But with last year’s category winner Russell Saulnier qualifying just 5/100th behind it was shaping up to be a hotly competitive race.
From the start the duel between driver Martin Barkey and Russell Saulnier’s #42 was intense. Though The Garage/MBRP’s #110 started off in front in the fourth row that lead was lost on the very first corner when Russell Saulnier was able to pass. It took a couple of laps before he could be overtaken but from there Martin Barkey was able to grow a comfortable lead – until the thirty-second lap.
With just eight laps left in the forty lap race and a solid twenty second lead it all came apart. The Viper’s “Throttle Position Sensor” failed and the car went into “limp” mode on corner 8. #110 was forced to wheel into the pits and take a DNF on this race.
In spite of it all Martin Barkey, The Garage CEO and co-founder of MBRP Inc. was upbeat. “To date this was our best racing. With the team having prepared the car perfectly we managed to lay down our very fastest lap times ever on this track. It’s disappointing to say the least to be that close to our fourth podium finish in as many races and not be able to take the hardware home. That’s racing……. we will be more than ready for the next event.”
We would like to thank our 2012 race sponsors. Without the generosity and support of our corporate sponsors we just wouldn’t be as competitive in this series as we are currently. A big thanks goes out to: Tire Discounter Group (www.tirediscounter.ca), Jackson Transportation Services (www.jacksontransportation.com), Praxair (www.praxair.com) and Jake Media (www.jakemedia.ca).
