AVONDALE, NL – Canadian driver Alex Tagliani, of Lachenaie, Quebec finished sixth place following Saturday’s round 4 of the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series held at Eastbound International Speedway. It was only the second time the NASCAR Pinty’s Series has visited the 3/8 mile oval located in Avondale, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Tagliani started The PRO•LINE 250 Presented by your local Chevrolet Dealers from the ninth spot and wheeled the #18 St. Hubert – NTN Bearings – Qwick Wick Chevrolet Camaro up to the 6th spot by lap 70. The car became loose and at the 5-minute half-way break Tag entered the pits in 8th. place.
The 22Racing team made some setup changes to fix the loose condition before noticing that a front sway bar had become disconnected. After fixing the sway bar they ran out of time to take out the setup changes and the car picked up a push early in the second half of the race. Even though the car was not where it needed to be Tagliani was able to cross the finish line with a respectable 6th. place finish.
“Not bad to walk away from Newfoundland with a sixth-place finish”, said Tagliani. “Unfortunately, I think we could have done much better had the sway bar not become disconnected. The guys didn’t notice the sway bar until after making changes to tighten up the car. They did a fantastic job reconnecting the sway bar, doing all the changes getting me back out there in the allotted 5 minutes on pit row.”
“In the second half, we developed a bit of a push because we over corrected the disconnect sway bar situation and we weren’t as fast as we needed to be. We decided not to pit and keep our track position. We made it up to the fourth position, but on the late-race restart, it was tough to protect our spot and we ended up sixth. However, it was a good points day proud of the guys and we brought the car home with all its parts.”
“I’m looking forward to our next race on the streets of Toronto and having a good points day”.
Up next, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series visits the streets of Toronto, Ontario at Exhibition Place for the Grand Prix of Toronto on Friday, July 14th.
In the driver standings, Alex Tagliani moved up to the 7th place position, 48 points out of first.
The PRO•LINE 250 from Eastbound International Speedway in Avondale, Newfoundland and Labrador will air on TSN2 on Saturday, July 1st at 3:00 pm ET and RDS2 in Quebec (TBD).
