BOWMANVILLE, ON (September 5, 2017)– The #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team recorded its seventh Top-5 finish of the season this afternoon on the legendary Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road course. After starting from fifth on the grid, driver Louis-Philippe Dumoulin kept up with the lead pack, also recording the second quickest lap of the race in the process, a mere 0,184 second slower than the quickest car.
The #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team completed a fruitful day on Saturday (September 2nd), using as a basis the settings from the first race of this season, held at this same track. The car was showing a tendency to oversteer at the start of the Saturday practice session. This was corrected by a few changes to the suspension settings, which restored the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car to a balanced behaviour, especially in the important high-speed corners. With fifth position on the grid only 0.532 sec. from pole position, the team was ready for 51 action-filled and competitive laps.
This last race of the season on a road course was flagged off under wet conditions. The team was hoping to see the track dry out early in the race, especially since they had set the car for dry conditions and had been forced to mount “wet” tires to start the race, a difficult combination to go quick with.
“The car was quick to start off with, but we still had to look for traction on the wet track to get the most out of our “wet” setup. We then lost time and several positions when we stopped for dry tires, as the crew had some problems with the right rear wheel. Back on track with a near perfect car on slick (dry) tires, we were able to claw our way back up to fifth” according to the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team.
The NASCAR Pinty’s Series now returns to the province of Quebec for the penultimate race of the season, on September 9, at the short Autodrome St-Eustache oval.
