September 6, 2014- Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team were looking for championship points during round number ten of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series at Barrie Speedway located just north of Barrie, Ontario on Saturday night. Unfortunately a mechanical problem cut short the race for Ranger and the team.
The #27 Mopar Parts Dodge was a handful during the afternoon practice sessions. The team made significant changes looking to improve the handling but Ranger was still only able to manage the fourteenth best qualifying time.
“The car was just really tight all day” said Ranger. “The team made a lot of changes but it was tough trying to keep the balance on the car as well.”
When the 300 lap feature race began Ranger was able to use the long green flag run to begin the race to his advantage and steadily picked up positions in the race.
“The track conditions changed a bit and the car felt a little better and I managed to pick up some positions” he stated.
Following scheduled pit stops for fuel and fresh tires Ranger was on the move again pushing the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge all the way to the front of the field on lap 128.
“With the changes made during the pit stops the Mopar car was even better and I was happy to have made it all the way to the front” said Ranger.
The joy would be short lived however. Without warning the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge began to slow on the front stretch just past the midpoint of the race. After dropping several positions Ranger would bring the car to pit lane and the attention of the team. The problem however was serious enough to end their night.
“It’s really a shame” said Ranger. “The team worked really hard to improve the car and after making it all the way to the front something goes wrong. It’s very frustrating.”
Ranger would be given credit for a 15th place finish. With the result Ranger sits fourth in the overall standings headed into the final event of the season.
Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge will return to action for the final event of the season on Saturday September 20 at Kawartha Speedway near Peterborough, ON.
