Delaware, ON – The world's most powerful short track cars, the ISMA Super Modifieds hit the track on Saturday evening at Delaware Speedway finishing up their weekend with a longer, more intense feature than the previous night. Tim Jedrezejk (#32) of Independence, OH, won the eventful 75-lap race taking the lead from Mike Lichty (#84) of Innerkip, ON in the last lap after a riveting battle for the lead.
Lichty, who led the race for twenty-five laps, placed second. Eddie Witkum (#97) of Westford, MA, led the first 49 laps and placed third. The race had four cautions flags. The caution flag on lap six, as a result of a car bursting into flame, became a red flag after a second car caught fire later into the caution. Due to the number of caution laps, it was necessary for the cars to refuel in order to finish the race. Nobody was injured during the competition.

Gary McLean (#8) of Conn won the 25-lap OSCAAR Open Wheeled Modified race. He took the lead from Justin DeMelo (#82) of London in lap 23. DeMelo was unable to get back into first position after leading the first 22 laps and came in second place. Brent McLean (#7) of Conn placed third. The race contained three caution periods.

Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin won the 25-lap Coca-Cola Super Stocks feature, his first win of the season in championship chase competition. Showler took the lead in lap seventeen from Kris Lawrence (#28) of London who placed second. Paul Fothergill (#33) of London placed third. The race was slowed by three cautions.

Next Friday, August 10, 2012, the FT Garage Late Models will be racing the finale of the McColl Racing Enterprises Mid-Season Championship. The event will also include a Coca-Cola Super Stock 35-lap feature and an Aggregates Trucks 35-lap feature. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m.

--FRIDAY RECAP--

The World’s Most Powerful Short Track Cars lived up to their name Friday evening. Ryan Coniam (#46) of Laguna Beach, CA, won the 35-lap ISMA Super Modifieds Feature after leading the entire race, passing Johnny Benson on the opening lap. Johnny Benson (#74) of Corenlius, NC, placed second and Rob Summers (#11) of Vernon, CT, placed third. A large audience attended the race to see the winged cars tear up the track and they were not disappointed. On the fourth lap, the plastic screen covering the Coca-Cola score board was shaken onto the race track by the power of the engines resulting in a caution. On the seventh lap there were a trio of cautions, before the remainder of the race ran caution free. The win is the first for Coniam in Super Modified competition.

“This is really big to win in Canada, to win an ISMA show,” said Coniam in victory lane. “The race car is solid, a good car and good engine can make a driver look awful good.”

David Elliott (#37) of Waterdown won the FT Garage Late Models race. It was his first feature win at Delaware Speedway, an important mile stone for his championship bid. He took the lead in lap seventeen from Shawn Thompson (#72) who led the first sixteen laps and placed third. During the first lap there was a incident involving seven cars, including a number of championship contenders such as Kirk Hooker (#38H) of Chatham and Matt Pritiko (#21) of London. Mark Watson (#3) of St. Thomas pulled finished second, a strong night for his championship bid.

Devon Bloemendal (#01) won the Demar Aggregates Trucks Feature. Gary Adriaensen (#55) came in second and Tom Zagorodny (#77) took third. Bloemendal took the lead from Tyler Finlay (#25) in lap seven and remained in the lead for the remainder of the 35-lap race which had one caution on lap two. Late in the race Adriaensen had been catching Bloemendal, but ran out of laps to track him down. Bloemendal also appeared to be experiencing engine trouble coming the checkers, but it was not enough to keep him from the win.
