“There were several different options available to us, but this seemed like the best course of action,” Kirkland admitted. “Every year, our fan base and race teams look forward to the season opener. Even if it couldn’t be held on the regularly scheduled date, they’ll still get to be part of the kick-off to our 50th anniversary season.”
Thanks to the weather, Kirkland says this year’s first event will be headlined by a 50 lap ‘A’ main for the home track Street Stocks, with regular distance features for the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar 358 Mods, Sportsman-Modifieds, Draper Doors Rookie Sportsman and Outlaw Vintage Modifieds. The Mini Stock division has been held-over from the May 11th show and will be added to this weekend’s line-up, which will also feature Bob Green as 50th anniversary Grand Marshall.
“The first races of the Small Block and Sportsman shows for the Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Triple Crown will be made-up at a later date,” Paul Kirkland continued. “Weather conditions threw us a curve, but we have to do the best we can to work with all of our drivers, teams and most importantly; the fans to put together a successful schedule that works for everyone.”
As always, gates will open Saturday, May 18th at 5:00, with the night’s first green flag at 7:00.
