Six-Year-Old Ava Meets Her Role Model and Gets the Surprise of a Lifetime

#RaceCarByAva* @CBRTINC* TORONTO, On (Mar. 17, 2015) – As many of us know, it can be hard to keep something a surprise these days. However, when the surprise involves a child, it is amazing to see what lengths adults will go to hide that surprise just to see the look of awe and excitement on a child's face.

That is exactly what happened this past weekend in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (NCATS) booth at the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo in Toronto. Not only did six-year-old Ava get to meet her role model, Erica Thiering, of Canada's Best Racing Team (CBRT), but she was also surprised when the car wrap design she submitted to the team was brought to life on Thiering's Ford race car.

Ava's Story: Just over a month ago, Ava asked her father, Andrew Warrington, to help her make a design for Thiering's new CBRT race car using a computer racing program. The result was a bright pink car, complete with blue stars. At Ava's request, Andrew sent the design to Canada's Best Racing Team via Twitter, and received an immediate response stating how much the team loved the design.

When CBRT was contemplating how to wrap Thiering's car for the upcoming motorsports show, they quickly decided to use Ava's design. "There was no doubt in our mind that we would use it," said Thiering. "Our goal is to support women in motorsports and to highlight the importance of role models in the lives of children, so this made perfect sense and fit with CBRT's core values."

The Buildup: While Ava was aware she would be meeting her favourite race car driver, she had no idea that she would be surprised with her design on a real race car. The team sent out invitations to the grand unveiling, and hinted over social media (using #CBRTunveil) that a big surprise would be announced at the event.

The Big Surprise: On Friday, March 13, Ava was introduced to Thiering, and explained that the team had a surprise for her. She hesitantly nodded her head that she was ready for the big surprise, and helped peel back the cover to reveal Thiering's pink car covered in blue stars, with the hash tag #RaceCarByAva on the sides.

Surprised, Ava ran to her family for a hug, and then approached the car to inspect her artwork while photographers snapped pictures. Over the next hour, Ava posed for pictures with her role model and gave interviews with complete ease, including an interview with Stella Acquisto of City News Toronto.

The Response: The following day, Ava returned to the show to join CBRT drivers, Joey McColm and Erica Thiering, for an autograph signing session with other NCATS drivers. Wearing a pink vest, she stood out amongst black corporate shirts while signing autographs using a pink marker. That day, the star treatment continued as Ava and her family met Todd Bodine, two-time NASCAR Truck Series champion, and Courtney Hansen, Model and Powerblock TV host. Adorning a shirt that said, "Reach for the Stars", Ava stood close to her pink car, talking to fans and again posing for pictures.

Since the grand unveiling of #RaceCarByAva, Ava's story has continued online as fans and media partners post pictures, video, blog articles and more from her special day.
