During Saturday’s practice session Kennington was very pleased with the performance of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and was careful not to overdo it.
“The car felt so good right away” said Kennington. “I didn’t want to run too many laps on it. We just made a few minor changes to be ready for qualifying” he added.
Kennington would post the ninth fastest time in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and line up on row five for the 200km race on Sunday. Showing the same performance as the day before Kennington was quickly on the move into the top five.
“Some of the guys were pushing pretty hard and I tried to take it easy” said Kennington.
As the race moved forward the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team made scheduled pit stops for fuel and fresh tires. With service complete the job was now in the hands of the driver. Kennington continued to work his way back toward the front of the field and climbed to up to seventh place at the checkered flag.
“Another solid day by everyone” said Kennington. “We’re up near the front every week and to get seventh against all these road course guys, that’s good for us. If we maybe had stopped a bit later and had fresher tires, we had a chance for a top five. But still, really great job by the Castrol team” he added.
Of note: DJ Kennington was a last-minute substitute and drove the #02 Truck for Young’s Motorsports in the Gander Outdoors Truck Series race on Sunday. Kennington claimed tenth spot in Stage 1 of the race and scored a 15th place finish in the race, the highest result amongst the three team drivers.
DJ Kennington and the Castrol Edge Dodge team return to action Saturday September 7that the Autodrome St. Eustache in St. Eustache, Quebec.
