On the challenging ten turn track near Bowmanville, Ontario Simone was strong all weekend in the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge and grabbed a fifth-place finish in the Total Quartz 200.
The #1 Silverline Tools Dodge hit the track for practice on Saturday and was quick right away. The team made minor adjustments and improved further to post the third quickest time during the session.
“The car was a little tight, so we took out a couple of spring rubbers and that made a big difference, it got even better” said Simone.
During the Saturday afternoon qualifying session Simone would post the sixth quickest time in the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge to line up in row three for the 200km race on Sunday.
“We ran 3/10ths quicker during qualifying” stated Simone “We’re really looking forward to the race” he added.
When race began Simone kept the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge in touch with the leaders. During a couple of early caution periods in the race the team made planned pit stops, first for fuel and the later for fresh tires. Trouble during the tire stop set them back in the field.
“We had an issue with the lug nuts so when I got back out, I’d lost some ground” explained Simone.
Simone pushed the #1 Silverline Tools Dodge hard and fought his way back toward the front of the field and was running third in the late stages. A couple of late cautions would bunch the field up and drivers were extra aggressive in the closing laps.
“I pushed super hard to get back to the front and wound up giving a couple of spots back” said Simone. “But a top five is a great finish for us. Team did a great job; the car was fast all weekend. I’m looking forward to showing what we can do the rest of the year” he added.
CBRT driver Larry Jackson also ran well during the race moving his #21 Sunspace/Victory Gamez Dodge up from 19that the start to run as high as seventh in the late stages of the event. Late race contact from another car would cause significant damage and drop him back to 16that the finish.
