The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was fast right from the start of practice and Kennington would line up third to begin the 300-lap feature event.
“We didn’t make a lot of changes at all during practice, the guys did a great job to have us quick right out of the box” said Kennington.
In the first half of the race the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge looked strong for a while but then began to slip back a couple of positions.
“The car was a bit loose and tough to handle in the first half of the race. We found out after the tire stagger didn’t work the way we’d anticipated” he explained.
During the required midway break for teams to fuel and change tires the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team also made some handling adjustments that improved the performance in the second half of the race.
“Oh boy did we get better” said Kennington. “The car was really strong, and we raced our way back to the front” he added.
Kennington would take over the lead on lap 269 and keep the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge out front for the next 20 laps. A couple of late race cautions bunched up the field and would send the race into overtime. Kennington pushed as hard as he dared during a wild couple of final laps but had to settle for second.
“It was really close out there and I think we were better in some parts but didn’t quite have enough to get back out front” said Kennington after the race.
“But I’m proud of this group for working so hard. We’re a contender every week out here and we’ll regroup and be ready to go after it again next weekend at CTMP” (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park).
