Kennington’s significant amount of experience racing on larger tracks in the US showed as he posted some of the quickest times during the Friday practice sessions and qualified the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge third on the grid for the 100 lap race.
“I like where we are” said Kennington after the days activity “the team did a nice job and I think the car will be really good during the race” he added.
When the action began on Saturday Kennington moved the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge into second position before lap 20.
“The spot was there so we took it but knew that there was a long way to go,” explained the driver.
After falling back a few positions Kennington brought the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge to pit lane during a caution near the mid point of the race.
“The handling of the car wasn’t quite where we needed it to be” explained the driver. “So we made some adjustments and knew we’d be better for it”.
In the second half of the race Kennington used his skills and an improved #17 Castrol Edge Dodge to climb back toward the front of the field and took the checkered flag with a fifth place result. His seventh top five finish of the season. Kennington is the only competitor to finish every race this season in the top ten.
“We’re proud of it sure,” he said afterwards. “We know that consistency is the way to win. If we’re in a good position at each race, the next win is going to come. Great job by the whole Castrol team today” he added.
Kennington’s season long consistency has him sitting fourth in the overall championship standings.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge are back in action this coming Saturday, September 29 at Jukasa Speedway near Hamilton, Ontario for the final race of the 2018 season.
