ANTIGONISH, NS – Victory is sweet for Halifax’s John Flemming. Flemming, driver of the #97 Dodge Charger, led 142 laps en route to the checkered flag in the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. A capacity crowd of 10,000 people cheered on Flemming to victory at Riverside International Speedway. Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE) came home in second place after a frantic charge to the front of the field in the second half of the race.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Joey Logano (Huntersville, NC) came home in third after trading the lead in the early stages of the event with weekend teammate Donald Chisholm (Antigonish), who finished 21st after a crash in Turn Three early in the second half of the race. Corey Williams (Huntersville, NC), driving the #13 King Freight Ford owned by Rollie MacDonald (Pictou), was scored in fourth at the finish, just ahead of Daryl Mahar (Hubley, NS).
Thirty-two cars attempted to make the field for the sixth running of IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. Twenty-four cars locked themselves into the feature via Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials and Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races. Chisholm set fast time in the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials with a lap of 14.276 seconds around the 1/3-mile oval. The three Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races were won by Williams, Hicken and Kent Vincent (Crapaud, PE). The Fast Eddie Racewear Dash For Cash was picked up by Salisbury, New Brunswick’s Mike Stevens. Jerome Kehoe (Sydney), Terry Dougay (Albany, PE), Leonard Boutilier (Dutch Settlement) and Steve Ross (Waverly) were awarded provisional positions to round out the 28 car field. Cy Harvey (Elmsdale, NS), Brad Brown (Halifax), David Heino (Barrington) and Pete Miller (Kennetcook) did not qualify.
Pro Stock Tour contingency awards were a part of the over $89,000 in purse money up for grabs during the IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. Flemming, won the Linde Group Most Laps Led and the King Freight Lines Halfway Awards. Steve Halpin (Saint John, NB) was the top rookie and took home bonus cash from Exide Batteries while Kehoe took the Absolute Traffic Services Hard Charger Award.
