Returning to oval racing for the first time since late-June, veteran Jeff Lapcevich didn’t display an ounce of rust, battling his way through one of the most talented fields of the season en route to his second top-3 finish of the season.
Lapcevich battled a cold track in qualifying, turning in a time of 18.272 seconds, putting the Tim Hortons-sponsored #76 on the inside of row 7.
Despite his bobble in qualifying, Lapcevich was strong in race trim, quickly working his way to the top-10 shortly after the drop of the green flag.
“The crew gave me a phenomenal car this afternoon”, noted Lapcevich post-race “I felt comfortable right from the get go, we were strong early and only improved as the race wore on”
The Grimsby, ON veteran continued to pick up positions – both on the speedway and in pit stops – through the midway portion of the race, infiltrating the top-5 and then taking the lead shortly after a lap-150 caution.
“Our car was fantastic on long runs, we had quite a few green flag periods that allowed us to pick up the positions we needed”
Lapcevich would surrender the lead on lap-166, briefly falling outside of the top-3 before battling his way back to the podium late in the race, earning his 3rd top-5 of the 2013 season.
“Persistence paid off for us this afternoon”, said Lapcevich “We knew we had a strong car, Rick [McColl] made some great calls on pit road for us and the crew rose to the occasion when we needed them. I’m proud of our team and what we accomplished today”
