BOWMANVILLE, ON – May 20, 2017) Montreal’s Kevin Lacroix scored the first NASCAR Pinty’s pole of the 2017 season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and the Castrol presents Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend. Sunday’s Can-Am 200 will feature an all-Quebec front row with Laval’s Alex Tagliani second on the grid.
Lacroix, in the Bumper to Bumper / Total / Gates Dodge posted the quickest time of the session with a 1:22.810. Tagliani piloted his EpiPen / Lowes / St.-Hubert / Fast Wheels Dodge to a 1:23.166.
In other action from Saturday, the first SprintX race of the weekend from co-headliner Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) saw the team of Michael Cooper (Syosset, NY) and Jordan Taylor (Orlando, FL) take the win in their Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R. The Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R Team of Patrick Long (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Jörg Bergmeister (Langenfeld, Germany) finished second with the Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R team of Johnny O’Connell (Flowery Branch, GA) and Ricky Taylor (Apopka, FL) third.
Jade Buford, of Brentwood, TN, driving the Racers Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4 won the first Pirelli World Challenge GTS race of the weekend.
Paul Holton, of Orlando, FL, in the C360R Audi RS 3 LMS Clubsport won from pole in PWC TC race 1, while Dean Copeland, of Grasonville, MD, in the Copeland Motorsport Mazda Global MX-5 Cup Car and Jake Pipal, Oakdale, CA in the Jake Pipal Racing Honda Fit won in TCA and TCB respectively.
Tsawwassen, BC’s Scott Hargrove in the Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 991 took the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama win, while Jean-Michel Isabelle scored his first career Nissan Micra Cup win.
Closing out the day was the Canadian Touring Car Championship and Race 1 of the 2017 season. Quebec City’s Mario Guerin in the Automobiles Etcetera Ferrari 458 Challenge won overall in GT Sport.
Sunday’s full slate of exciting racing action features the NASCAR Pinty’s Can-Am 200 scheduled for a green flag start at 1 pm. Hockey Hall of Fame goalie and former Toronto Maple Leaf star Johnny Bower is the Grand Marshall for the event and will do the Driver’s Start your Engine Command prior to the race.
