In the October 6th edition of Spencer Lewis’ Short Track Notebook, we bring you up to date on the latest Autumn Colours Classic news. Featuring Delaware Speedway’s Justin Demelo, Peterborough Thunder Car champion Donny Beatty and Flamboro Mini Stock titlist Dave Bailey. We also speak with Dale Shaw and Mike Gettliffe, and get their previews on October 11th, 12th and 13th’s ‘Classic’ event.
Delaware Speedway Pro Late Model regular Justin Demelo has announced via his team’s @82OSCAARMod Twitter page that he will pull double duty at this weekend’s Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway. The London, ON driver will compete in the 113-lap Pro Late Model division for the first time in his career, as well as joining the rest of the OSCAAR Modified Tour in their 50-lap season finale. Demelo joins 2013 Delaware champion Jamie Cox, 2013 Great Canadian Race winner Matt Pritiko and 2012 Delaware champion Mark Watson on the Pro Late Model entry list, as he looks to become the first Delaware regular to claim the PLM victory since Kirk Hooker managed the feat in 2008. Demelo’s double-division entry is made possible thanks to his 2013 sponsors EMCO Waterworks, JNF Ready Mix, Demar Aggregates, Sifton Properties and Ground Masters.
Peterborough Speedway Thunder Car champion Donny Beatty (above, by Ashley McCubbin) has announced that he will donate all of his Autumn Colours Classic winnings to Breast Cancer research. The Beaverton, ON driver captured the 2013 division crown after a fantastic season-long points battle with former Kawartha titlist Matt Spence. Beatty will compete alongside Thunder Car standouts Lane Zardo, Smokin’ Joe Adams, Cayden Lapcevich and Dave Doucette. Gate times and ticket prices for the October 11th, 12th and 13th event can be found at www.PeterboroughSpeedway.com
We recently spoke with Flamboro Speedway Pro Late Model sophomore Dale Shaw (above, by Thompson Photography) about the upcoming Autumn Colours Classic. The third-generation driver plans on making his first career Pro Late Model appearance at the ‘Classic’, joining a talent laden entry list of drivers looking to master the 113-lap event. Dale tells us about his strategy entering the event, what a strong performance at the ‘Classic’ would mean to his career and what he’s looking forward to this weekend. Follow Dale on Twitter @DaleShaw83 and watch the video here.
2013 Flamboro Speedway Mini Stock champion Dave Bailey (above, by Thompson Photography) has filed entry for this weekend’s Autumn Colours Classic. The Hagersville, ON driver joins a growing list of track champions making the pilgrimage to Peterborough for the 50-lap feature, including 2013 Peterborough champion Ryan Oosterholt, 2013 Barrie champion ‘The Valet’ Mike Gettliffe, 2013 Sunset champion Warren Paxton and 2013 Varney titlist Cory Young. A Flamboro regular has never won the Autumn Colours Classic in modern-day Mini Stock competition, Bailey will look to change that on October 13th. Fans can keep up with Bailey in the days leading up to the event via his Twitter account @Phast31.
Here’s our Autumn Colours Classic preview with 2013 Barrie Speedway Mini Stock champion Mike Gettliffe (above, by Thompson Photography). ‘The Valet’ will enter the event for the first time in his career, and tells us what he’s expecting heading into October 11th, 12th and 13th. The preview can be found here.
