Montréal, QC – This past weekend, the Media Racing Team contested the ICAR Sundown at the Circuit ICAR in Mirabel. Jocelyn Fecteau benefited from this outing by earning the team a sixth and a seventh place finish in the Touring class of the Canadian Touring Car Championship, catapulting him to second place in the championship standings.
Run under perfect weather conditions, the double-header races were subject to multiple developments throughout the weekend. For Jocelyn Fecteau, the goal was to finish both rounds, which took place on a track that is generally less advantageous to his car. “The practices went well but with the problems that the organizers had with the timing equipment, the qualifying session was cancelled. As a result, the start of the first race was based on the championship standings,” said Jocelyn. “I had the fifth fastest time in the practice but because I was ranked third in the series at the time, I had a better starting position.”
During this first race on a hot Saturday afternoon, the Media Racing Team driver remained very mindful of his Scion tC’s brakes, finishing the round without any bumps or contact. “I was careful, maybe a little too much so when we look at the final results. But, I prefer finishing seventh than risking losing my brakes and hitting a competitor while trying to slow down for a turn,” the Mont-St-Grégoire said. “The mechanics had their hands full with our other team car; I just wanted everything to go well and finish the race in seventh position, which was pretty good in the championship standings’ big picture.”
On Sunday, Jocelyn Fecteau was able to move up one place, finishing his second race in sixth spot overall. This welcomed result shot the driver into second place in the Touring drivers’ standings as they head into the midway point of the season. “We’re not in a position right now where we can fight for the win, but every point counts. Consistency pays off more than ever this season and I’m proud of the work that our team does to provide me with a reliable car,” he said.
Luc Lesage’s Trifluvien, the Media Racing Team’s second car, did not have a weekend nearly as satisfying. As a result of mechanical issues during Friday’s practice sessions, Lesage accepted that he would be forfeiting the race. However, thanks to the collaboration of other Canadian Touring Car teams, Lesage was lent a last-minute replacement vehicle, with which he finished the Touring class in eighth on Saturday and tenth on Sunday.
The next outing for the Canadian Touring Car Championship is set for July 7th and 8th, at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant, marking the first time that the series competes on the well-known circuit in the Laurentians. As much for Luc Lesage as for Jocelyn Fecteau, competing on this track will be nothing new. “I know this track well and I love it – I’m very much looking forward to racing there again,” Jocelyn said.
The Media Racing Team is contesting the Canadian Touring Car Championship in two categories, with Luc Lesage in Super Touring and Jocelyn Fecteau in Touring class.
