@scornettching • #NASCAR • DENVER, NC – Sarah Cornett-Ching is headed to the mecca of short track racing this weekend – the Bristol Motor Speedway – to make her NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut. Racing’s ‘girl next door’ will drive the #18 DRIVE Technology Toyota Camry in a joint venture between Tony Blanchard with RACE 101 and DRIVE Technology owners Sam Hunt and Shayne Lockhart.

“Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway on the same weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is a big opportunity,” said Cornett-Ching. “Our goal in racing is to earn our way to the top, and what better way to test the waters than to race a competitive car at a high profile event.”

RACE 101’s Blanchard has been balancing his time lately between preparing his fleet of ARCA Racing Series cars and managing the career of Cornett-Ching from Summerland, British Columbia. Since the announcement that she would race the full ARCA Racing Series schedule this year there has been no shortage of offers.

“I think in a lot of ways the sport has been looking for a young driver with the kind of attributes Sarah possesses,” said Blanchard. “We are continually expanding our 2015 schedule to put Sarah in the best position to succeed. After such a solid start we are seeing more and more doors opening.

“The DRIVE Technology equipment is competitive, and Sarah has proven she adapts quickly. She not only processes information with the race car quickly, but she is great with giving us the feedback we need to make it better.”

What cements the bond between Cornett-Ching and Blanchard is a mutual belief that they are the perfect match of driver and mentor.

“Tony can talk me through any situation with the car,” said Cornett-Ching. “In only three races together I know I can trust what he says, and on the business side of the sport he has even more experience. Things couldn’t be better right now.”

They enjoyed solid finishes in the two ARCA Racing Series short track events this year. The DRIVE Technology team is coming off a top-10 finish in its most recent outing at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. The plan for both Cornett-Ching and the DRIVE Technology team is to help Sarah gain invaluable seat time at relevant tracks.

“I will compete at Bristol Motor Speedway throughout my racing career,” said Cornett-Ching. “With every track being a new venue we plan to have solid finishes and reach our personal objectives at each track. We call it finishing the book. Once we finish the book we can plan ways to improve on our next outing.”

Cornett-Ching’s debut with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is her second experience with a NASCAR touring series. In 2011 she piloted a Jason White-owned Chevrolet in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event at her home track of Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, British Columbia.

The DRIVE Technology team is based in Richmond, Virginia, and it serves as a fully functional NASCAR K&N Pro Series development team. Its goal is to provide prime time opportunities for up and coming racers.
