QUEBEC – Jean-Philippe Bergeron is getting ready to fly to Florida where he will connect with members of the RCS (Race Car Solutions) team with whom he’ll compete in the Red Eye 50/50 event at the New Smyrna Speedway on January 1 & 2.
The only Canadian registered for this race, Bergeron will take the wheel of the #51 Pro Late Model at the high-banked, half-mile oval track.
The Red Eye 50/50 event, with the RCS team, will serve as a preparatory race for Bergeron for the 55th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, which will also take place at New Smyrna Speedway, Feb. 4-13.
“It was Alex Labbé who put us in touch with RCS,” said Bergeron. “We were looking for a high-performance car with a top team to compete in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. It only took a phone call from Alex to put us in touch with Jamie Skinner, the owner of RCS.
“I’m confident we will have a car that will live up to our expectations. I’m ready, more than ever. We’re going there to drive forward, but also to gain experience.”
NEW RECRUIT FOR FESTIDRAG DEVELOPMENT
Jean-Philippe Bergeron will be sporting the colours of Festidrag Development for his first race of the year.
“Jean-Philippe has been in the stock car business for few years,” said Marc Bergeron, Jean-Philippe’s father and president of the Prolon Racing Team. “We’re ready to move on to the next stage. Festidrag Development provides us with the communications support and visibility we need to make our sponsors happy.”
Speaking on behalf of Festidrag Development, president Martin D’Anjou said, “Jean-Philippe is serious, talented and motivated. We want drivers like him on our team. He knows how to represent our partners well and we will do everything we can to help him develop as much as possible in this sport.”
D’Anjou has recruited Mario Gosselin, owner of DGM Racing (the team Alex Labbé is racing for in the NASCAR Xfinity Series), to help Jean-Philippe Bergeron during the Red Eye 50/50 and the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing series.
Gosselin, whose reputation is well-established in the stock car industry, will coach Jean-Philippe at both events. “I’m thankful for opportunities like these to apply my industry experience and knowledge to help young drivers,” said Gosselin.
2021 CALENDAR
Following his outings in Florida, Bergeron will return to Quebec to take part in the LMS championships at Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction and at Autodrome Montmagny, which will begin May 15 and 22, respectively.
His goal is to win the championships in both.
“All the ingredients are in place to have a good season. If you add luck to that, there’s no reason not to finish at the top,” concluded Bergeron.
The team would like to thank its valued partners who, through their loyal support, are making the 2021 racing season possible: JCPerreault, Technoflex, Prolon, NeuroVision, CTSR, Hamel Honda, Rousseau Metal, Silverwax, Hipertech, VP Racing Fuels / DL Performance, Groupe GBI, Globocam, Permatex and Festidrag.TV.

About Jean-Philippe Bergeron: Jean-Philippe Bergeron made his first laps in a kart at the age of 13. In 2015, he participated for the first time in the Cup Lites series on the ICar road circuit where he was crowned Rookie of the Year. Thus began a promising career for the Quebec native. In 2017, he experienced an LMS car in the ACT series with the support of Mr. Claude Leclerc. That’s all it took to convince Bergeron to purchase his own LMS car to race in the CSCC series, one year later. Once again, Bergeron finished with the title of Rookie of the Year. In 2019, Marc Bergeron (Jean-Philippe’s father) and Martin Perreault founded the Prolon Racing Team. Surrounded by enthusiasts such as Denis Valiquette, Alain Fortier, Michel Patry, and team leader Richard Forget, Jean-Philippe started the 2020 season with an all-new car entirely rebuilt with a chassis updated by renowned manufacturer Dale Shaw. Despite the shortened season due to COVID-19, Bergeron still accumulated three podium finishes, including one victory, to end the season on a high note at Autodrome Montmagny.
