INNISFIL, ON- Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame member Stompin’ Tom Walters will make his OSCAAR Modified Tour debut at Sunset Speedway on August 23rd, when he climbs behind the wheel of the Phil Bullen-owned No. 67JR for the Modified portion of the inaugural Bruce Gowland Memorial.
The team has competed in 5 tour events this season, with Phil’s son Branden Bullen manning the controls in his sophomore campaign in an Open Wheel Modified. When asked about the driver swap, Phil explains it’s all part of Branden’s development.
“I want Branden to be able to understand what the car is doing from the inside and out”, says the former Super Late Model standout. “Too often, young drivers are able to tell you what a car is doing, but they can’t tell you why. I feel as though having Branden play the role of Car Chief for a race will provide the perfect opportunity for him to learn and understand how the car reacts in certain scenarios”
When asked why Bullen came to 30-time champion Walters to campaign the entry at Sunset, the second-generation driver admits the Hall of Famer was his first and only choice.
“I’ve known Tom a long time, and I have an immense amount of respect for his skillset”, says Phil. “I’m not entirely sure there’s anyone else in the pit area I would trust with our equipment”
“Tommy’s been hinting that he wanted to give this tour a shot, so I’m more than happy to provide him with an opportunity to do so. I’m confident that Branden will learn quite a bit working alongside Tom for a day”
Stompin’ Tom Walters’ OSCAAR Modified debut will be made possible thanks to Bullen Racing, Knightworks Designs and Dale Farren & Son of Snowball, ON.
