The 2012 racing season for Brockville Ontario Speedway kicked off Saturday night with a look back at 2011. The annual awards banquet packed Boston Pizza in Brockville for the evening. Danny O Brien claimed his 10th trophy as Modified track champion as thoughts began to turn to getting out onto the track in just under a month with the annual test and tune is scheduled for May 5th.
The other four champions were also crowned on Saturday night, Chris Herbison for the Sportsman, Kevin Fetterly Jr in the Street Stocks, Jean Marc Larose in the Rookies and Vintage champ Wayne Riddell, also recieved the coveted track champions jackets. The annual trip for Two draw for drivers in the top two divisons with perfect attendance went to Sportsman pilot and Race 101 scholarship winner Tabatha Murphy. Next up is the track’s first ever season preview next week.
The 1st annual BOS Fan Fare will be held on Saturday April 14th at Home Hardware Building Centre, 584 Stewart Blvd in Brockville. O Brien himself will be among the drivers at the free event that will run from 10am to 2pm and will also feature the 2011 Modified and Sportsmen BOS 5 Stars and their new cars for the 2012 season. Also among those confirmed are Stephane LaFrance, Matt Billings, Tim O Brien and Bobby Herrington from the Modified division. Heribson headlines the Sportsman drivers taking part along with Dylan Evoy and Dana Aikins. Fan Fare will also be accepting donations for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. There will be a BBQ at noon and the band “Rock Bottom” will be rocking the parking lot. Season’s passes and handy 2012 season pocket schedules will be available and the media is also invited.
The track also announced this week that it will honour it’s rich 43 year history with the formation of the NAPA Auto Parts/Finish Line Web Design Brockville Speedway Hall of Fame. Nominees will be accepted on the Brockville Speedway Facebook Fan Page from now until the start of the 2012 season. Once the season starts, all the nominees will go up on the BOS website for fan voting. The first round of inductees will be announced at the NAPA Auto Parts night at the track on Saturday, July 28th.
Inductees will be showcased in a designated spot behind the main grandstand and will receive a commemorative plaque. Fans can make nominations for the inaugural class of the Brockville Ontario Speedway Hall of Fame by visiting the Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/BrockvilleOntarioSpeedway.
