WETASKIWIN, AB (July 29, 2019)- Brett Taylor and the #46 Wing ‘n it Restaurants Dodge team just concluded the annual western swing for NASCAR Pinty’s Series this past weekend at Edmonton International Raceway in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. The series of three races over four days in two provinces is a demanding part of the schedule and tests the resilience of a team. This group passed that test.

For the Calgary resident it was a chance to show how much progress the team has made since entering the series full time a year ago. It was only days in advance of the challenging portion of the schedule that Taylor formed an alliance with Ed Hakonson Racing (EHR) and already the benefits are showing.

The western portion of the schedule opened with twin 125-lap races at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon last Wednesday July 24th. Taylor immediately gained attention for his on track performance. In race one he posted a career best sixth place finish to that point in his #46 Wing ‘n it Restaurants Dodge.

“It felt good to show what I knew was the potential of the team” said Taylor afterwards.

Knowing he had a fast race car and feeling the adrenaline of a strong outing, Taylor backed up his strong showing in race one by claiming his first career podium finish bringing the Wing ‘n it Restaurants Dodge across the finish line in third position.

“Wow, what an amazing night” said an enthusiastic Taylor. “Running up front with these drivers, you see what it takes to win. I learned so much from these two races, it’s going to help us moving forward” he added.

The series next moved to Edmonton International Raceway for a scheduled 300-lap event. As was the case for much of the season weather impacted the schedule with rain shortening practice and wiping out qualifying. Based on practice times as per NASCAR rule Taylor lined up in the #46 Wing ‘n it Restaurants Dodge in ninth to begin the race.

When the green flag dropped to begin the event, Taylor was on the move showing his confidence and talent in the opening laps. Sadly, the charge toward the front would stop when Taylor cut down the right front tire on the #46 Wing ‘n it Restaurants Dodge.

Diving to pit road as the race went under caution the team quickly replaced the tire and sent Taylor back out. As the race resumed however Taylor knew there were deeper problems and returned to pit lane. After diagnosing the trouble as terminal suspension issues he was forced to climb from the #46 Wing ‘n it Restaurants Dodge.

“Sure, it’s disappointing” said Taylor afterwards. “The car was fast, we jumped from ninth up to sixth in 20 laps and were gaining on the leaders, so It leaves a sour taste knowing what we were capable of, but it also motivates us to be better when we get back to our next event. The leaps forward this team has taken in a short time are easy to see. I’m really happy with how things have come together so quickly with EHR and I know we have another step to take when we get back on track” he added.

All NASCAR Pinty’s Series races are streamed live on TSN.ca, the TSN App and at fanschoice.tv
