@ACMS_Racing • Saskatoon, SK (June 27, 2015)- Stock cars are just like people. They complaint when it’s too cold and don’t like it when it’s too hot. Saturday was on the too hot side, as pit crews had to have the extra canisters of water ready to spray on overheating radiators and fans to slowly cool down red hot brake rotors. It didn’t stop the racing on the track from being hot though.
It was a quick turn-around for the Golf’s Car Wash Street Stocks as they raced Wednesday night. Brennan Forseille had a transmission to change and Curtis Houban had a car to put back together, but they were both ready to race Saturday at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.
Ryan Fredrickson got off to a good start, winning his first race of the year, taking the street stock heat race in the #22 Caterpillar Monte Carlo with the #3 of Kevin MacLaggin in chase. However, a c-clip in the #22’s rear axle broke and they didn’t even make it to the track for the qualifier. That left the door open for Mike Rea to pick up his first win of the year, taking checkers with the #18 Daou Auto Monte Carlo ahead of Kevin MacLaggin.
After losing the first two features of the year to Nicole Sheetka and Kevin MacLaggin, Brennan Forseille finally got a taste of gold on Wednesday night. He must have liked the taste as starting from the back Saturday for the Golf’s Car Wash Street Stock Feature, Brennan worked his way through the field of cars and took over a lead he wouldn’t give
up, taking his second feature win of the year in the #28 Ghost Transportation Monte Carlo. Mike Rea was second and Kevin MacLaggin third.
Ryan Fredrickson? His night went from bad to worse. After winning the heat race and not making the qualifier, Ryan’s crew got his car moving just as the cars were rolling for the feature. Lap six into the race the #22 Caterpillar Camaro got loose coming out of turn four, clipped another car and was turned into the wall, dumping his front end and
radiator on the track.
There was no question the Shell V-Power Nitro+ Sportsmen came out to race Saturday night also. Even though Matthew Shirley won the first heat race, Nick Allen, Neil Schneider, Travis Deforest and Ben Busch were all chomping at the bit and were in position to take advantage of any list mistake another might make.
Neil Schneider was hungry for a win, with his best finish on the year being a couple of fourths. That changed Saturday as Neil piloted the #93 Burco Electrical Contractors Dodge Avenger to front in the qualifier race ahead of #49 Ben Busch.
It was early Saturday afternoon and Jim Goodlad was still welding the race seat in his new Sportsman wheels; eight hours later and he claims a third spot finish in the Shell V-Power Sportsman Feature. Matthew Shirley admitted after the race that he had horse shoes up his, umm, tailpipe, as he managed to get the #12 Co-op Grand Prix to the finish
line 0.22 seconds ahead of Ben Busch’s #49 Northern Lights Casino Monte Carlo.
Jim Barnsley was back behind the wheel of the #41 Streetwise Service Dodge Neon Saturday and made his mark picking up wins in the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stock heat and qualifier races.
It was Tanner Reimer though that got the jump in the second lap of the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stock Feature and led all the way to the end. Barnsley finally worked his way into the second position in the 28th lap, but 12 laps still wasn’t enough to catch Reimer as he took home the final checkered flag of the night with his #25 The Results Team Honda
Civic with Barnsley right on his bumper only 0.239 seconds behind. Cole Nixey with the #23 33rd Street Auto Acura Integra placed third.
Next Saturday’s race card is one you don’t want to miss. The brand new Sky Financial Super Late Model Series hits the track for the first of four series races. Joined by the Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stocks and the Tiger Automotive Pro Trucks, July 4th promises to be an exciting night of racing. Front gates open at 4:30 for this special event race, with
the first green flag at 6:05pm
And don’t forget, after next Saturday’s race you’ll see an amazing transformation as the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway changes from race track to air strip, as the Canada Remembers Our Heroes Air Show moves in for July 11 and 12, before it’s back to racing July 14 and 15 with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series two day race program.
