HEPWORTH, ON- One of the most challenging short track events in North America, the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway has provided the ideal stage for a battle of short track supremacy for 48-years.
The event’s unique 8-night format is known to draw some of the top driving talent in North America, to the tough Central Florida speedplant, in a week-and-a-half long test of endurance, skill and the will to win.
Hepworth, ON’s Andrew Gresel will make the 20-hour haul to New Smyrna to compete in his third World Series, slated to compete in a Pro Late Model division stacked with talent from top to bottom.
“I don’t think there’s another event on the planet that’s quite as challenging as the World Series”, admitted the 29-year old. “There’s an elevated level of competition at this event that’s completely unrivalled. Our team won’t face this kind of test anywhere else”.
While no stranger to the division – Gresel earned the 2011 Delaware Speedway Pro Late Model championship – the young veteran has not campaigned his Late Model since late-2012, opting instead to follow the OSCAAR Super Late Model tour for the entirety of the 2013 season. Despite the year-long layoff, Gresel is confident there will be no need for reintroductions.
“I’m very comfortable with our Pro Late Model program. It’s a car that we’ve won with at New Smyrna before and it’s also the car that we won the Delaware championship with. Strapping back into it should feel pretty natural”.
After a 2013 campaign in which his Sauble Falls Racing team earned 4 victories on the highly competitive OSCAAR tour, en route to the Rookie of the Year title, Gresel is eager to prove the momentum is transferable to 2014.
“Our team gave me a phenomenal car in 2013, it was an amazing year for us, I can’t wait to follow it up with a strong run in Florida. I believe that I have some of the best guys in our industry, and I know we have what it takes to run alongside the best Late Model competitors in the sport”
Gresel will be supported at New Smyrna Speedway by Sauble Falls Tent & Trailer Park, Canadian Union of Skilled Workers, HY-Grade Roofing, Have1.com Printing Service, London Recreational and Sauble Speedway.
