A legendary race car returned to London on the weekend. The “Wild Child” 1965 Ford Falcon A/FX car, powered by a SOHC 427, won a lot of races in the 1960s. Rankin Ford put on a contest to name the car and Joe Rijnen won the $25 prize.
Joe was able to return to the ELTA car show last Saturday. Current car owner Joe Germann had the car on display, bringing it all the way up from Boston, Massachusetts, where it has been on display in a local museum.
It brought back lots of memories for the crowds attending the show. I owned the car for a couple of years back in the early ’90s after purchasing it from the original owner, “NASCAR Bob” Jezequel. Do I regret selling it? Yup!
I was quite sorry to post last week that Pfaff Motorsports was dropping out of IMSA competition next year. I sat next to Chris Pfaff 10 years ago when both of us were being inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame.
I watched his team win races in Porsches, then they switched to McLaren, resulting in a steep learning curve. They then switched to Lamborghini with mixed results until a week ago when they won the PRO class at the bad-fast Road America. I still see one of Pfaff’s former drivers, Mathieu Jaminet, doing very well in one of the Penske Porsche P cars. The team will be missed by lots of Canadian fans.
After several attempts at staging the Clash race at different locations, the race will return home next year, home being Daytona International Speedway. And the race will be sponsored by Wheatley American Vodka. Vodka and NASCAR in the same sentence? Never thought I would ever see that connection!!
We used to regularly, back in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, go down to Daytona for racing, starting with the Rolex, then on Sunday a week later the Clash, ARCA race and the Goody’s Dash Series, followed by the full week of the 500. I’m happy to see the Clash back home.

CASC-OR: The Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs – Ontario Region sanctions the RaceOntario Championships, a series of race events run from April through October at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Shannonville Motorsports Park, and Calabogie Motorsport Park. CASC-OR is a group of nearly thirty motorsport enthusiast clubs with two thousand members within Ontario. The organization sets rules and regulations for four divisions, Road Racing, Time Attack, Autoslalom and Ice Racing, and administers & promotes provincial championships in each. NASCAR Cup Series – The series dropped into Corn Country Sunday at Iowa Speedway. Ryan Blaney (Ford) won the pole over Kyle Larson (Chev) and Joey Logano (Ford). There were 36 cars, including 17 Chevs, 10 Fords and nine Toyotas.
On Lap 4, Tyler Reddick got loose all by himself and collected Erik Jones. Both cars were, unfortunately, done for the day. Blaney won Stage 1.
The caution came back out on Lap 91 when Shane Van Gisbergen had a solo spin between Turns 3 and 4. On the restart, Ricky Stenhouse got bumped into the wall for a yellow. The jury is still out on the pace car passenger’s commentary!!
On Lap 140, Carson Hocevar, running at the back of the pack, spun by himself in Turn 4 for another yellow. On the restart, Larson got pushed high by John Hunter Nemechek in Turn 4, then came down, hitting Alex Bowman and taking out both cars. Christopher Bell won Stage 2.
Ty Gibbs got the win over teammate Bell and Blaney. The final stage ran caution-free.
In the points, Denny Hamlin leads new second-place driver Gibbs by 103 and Blaney by 110.

NASCAR O’Reilly Series – In qualifying for the race at Iowa Speedway, Ryan Sieg won the pole over Ross Chastain and Carson Kvapil (all in Chevs). There were 37 cars, including 29 Chevs, seven Toyotas and one Ford.
The first yellow came out on Lap 27 when Nathan Byrd looped it in Turn 4 and ended up stopped in the middle of the groove. Fortunately, nobody hit him. Sieg won Stage 1.
But his luck ran out on Lap 75 when he spun in Turn 2 for the second race caution. Justin Allgaier won Stage 2.
On Lap 150, Anthony Alfredo spun off Turn 4. Caution.
Eight laps later, William Sawalich got spun by Patrick Staropoli for another caution. On Lap 166, Carson Ware got a tap from Jesse Love and backed it into the wall. Yellow. On Lap 181, Staropoli and Brennan Poole got together and collected Mason Maggio, who slid for yet another caution. On Lap 193, Sammy Smith and Corey Day got together in Turn 1 for the eighth race caution of the day. Wow.
With four laps to go, Jeb Burton spun in Turn 2. Caution. And, of course, NASCAR Overtime!!
On the restart, there was a bit of chaos. Leader Chastain appeared to spin his tires and they kind of stacked up behind him, resulting in Sieg and Brent Crews bumping and sliding up the track. I counted eight cars in the melee.
They got the restart right and ran to the flag, with Carson Kvapil getting the win over Rajah Caruth and Sawalich.
In the points, Allgaier leads Kvapil by 238, yup, 238, with Sheldon Creed third, 266 back.

IndyCar – The series headed up to the Northwest for the Grand Prix of Portland (Oregon). Felix Rosenqvist won the pole over Alex Palou and Will Power.
The yellow came out on Lap 7 when Graham Rahal spun out.
At the halfway mark it was Palou ahead of Rosenqvist and Power.
Wow, 110 laps on a challenging race course and only one caution flag.
Palou got the win over Rosenqvist and Power. Another big win for Chip Ganassi.
In the points, Palou now has a 100-point lead over Kyle Kirkwood and 118 over David Malukas.

NASCAR Canada Series – The series visited Trois-Rivières on the weekend and had races on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Saturday races were 15-lap sprint races (we need more of those!!).
In the first race, points leader Marc-Antoine Camirand started from the pole over Simon Charbonneau and Alex Labbe. After 15 clean laps, Camirand got the win ahead of Labbe and L.P. Dumoulin.
In the second race, second-place points driver Kevin Lacroix started from the pole over Andrew Ranger and Alex Guenette. Guenette and Alex Tagliani put on a pretty good show over the last five laps, trading spots and paint!! At the flag it was Lacroix over a badly smoking Ranger and Tagliani.
BTW – Note to the NASCAR Canada webmaster: The June 27 race at Antigonish displayed on the Race Centre Live Timing (which wasn’t activated at Trois-Rivières) was six races ago. Maybe somebody could update that?
Lacroix started from the pole for Sunday’s race over Camirand and Ranger. Thirty cars took the green flag on the really cool circuit.
The yellow came out on Lap 10 when Dominec Scrivo rolled to a stop on track. The red then came out to allow the track crew to straighten one of the Jersey barriers beside the track.
A little drama on pit road as the Castrol car of D.J. Kennington went up on jack stands but did not return to the race.
The yellow came back out on Lap 18 when Sam Fellows’ car “blowed up real good” and was actually on fire. The lettering was burned off the right side of his car. Sam was okay.
At the halfway point it was Lacroix over Camirand and Ranger. Just after the restart, Lacroix dropped out of the race with problems.
The yellow came back out on Lap 30 when Alex Tagliani stuffed it hard into the tire wall. To add insult to injury, Tag’s car was on fire and he was still in the car. He got out safely and the fire was put out.
On the subsequent restart, Jared Odrick got sideways and was hit by Connor Bell, who drove off with the front end of Odrick’s car on top of the nose of his own car. Great catch by the camera crew. Yellow for debris.
At the flag it was Camirand over L.P. Dumoulin and Guenette.

Ontario Sportsman Series – In qualifying, delayed by the weather, for the first of two 50-lappers at Peterborough Speedway, Amber Balcaen set fast time over Donovin Clark and Chad McGlynn.
The race went green all the way and former series champion Kevin Trevellin got the win over Todd Sheppard and Austin Seburn.
Time of the race: 16:32.
The second 50-lapper was cancelled due to the curfew.

Delaware Speedway – It was “Double Double” night last Friday. No, we’re not talking about coffee, we’re talking about double features for both the Bone Stocks and the Super Stocks.
In the Bone Stocks, Colin Willems won Heat 1, Mitchell Rawlings won Heat 2 and Paul Fothergill won Heat 3. In the uber-lengthy Feature 1, Willems got the win over Michael Verberne and Justin Collver. In the second feature, Verberne won over Nathan Rhea and Charlie Verhoeven.
In the Super Stocks, Lucas Orr won Heat 1 while his brother Ethan won Heat 2. Brody Richwood got his first-ever feature win in the first feature over Ryan Dyson and Nic Ramsay. In the second feature, Darrell Lake secured the win over Trevor Collver and Orr.
It should be noted that the Orr brothers, Richwood and Ramsay are all from St. Thomas, and Dyson is based in a shop in St. Thomas. Makes me proud to be a native of St. Thomas and a resident there.
Next Race: First Responders Night, Friday. Mods, V8 Stocks and Bone Stocks.
